Part 2. Biosynthesis and Metabolism

چکیده
All eukaryotic organisms and even a few prokaryotes have the ability to synthesise triacylglycerols, and the process has been studied intensively in plants and animals especially. Many cell types and organs have the ability to synthesise triacylglycerols, but in animals the liver, intestines and adipose tissue are most active with most of the body stores in the last. Within all cells, even those of the brain, triacylglycerols are stored as cytoplasmic ‘lipid droplets’ (also termed ‘fat globules’, ‘oil bodies’, ‘lipid particles’, ‘adiposomes’, etc) enclosed by a monolayer of phospholipids and hydrophobic proteins, such as the perilipins in adipose tissue or oleosins in seeds. These lipid droplets are now treated as distinctive organelles, with their own characteristic metabolic pathways and associated enzymes – no longer boring blobs of fat. They are not unique to animals and plants as Mycobacteria and yeasts have similar lipid inclusions.

The effect of water borne nickel on iron metabolism and heme biosynthesis in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Nickel is an essential element for all living organisms such as microorganisms, plants and animals. When nickel concentration exceeds the necessary concentration, could be toxic, and likewise causes adverse effects in living organisms. In this study, following determining nickel LC50-96h for common carp (Cyprinus carpio), nickel sub-lethal treatments including 0 (control), 0.055, 0.275, 0.572, ...
متن کاملStereo-Specific Transcript Regulation of the Polyamine Biosynthesis Genes by Enantiomers of Ornithine in Tobacco Cell Culture
Background: Ornithine (Orn) plays an essential role in the metabolism of plant cells through incorporation in polyamines biosynthesis, the urea cycle and nitrogen metabolism. Physiological response of the plant cells to its two enantiomers have not been widely investigated yet. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate effect of ornithine enantiomers on exp...
متن کاملTranscriptional Response of Structural and Regulatory Genes Involved in Isoprene Biosynthesis and its Relation to Essential Oil Biosynthesis in Response to Salicylic Acid and Abscisic Acid in Mentha piperita L.
Background: In peppermint, precursors for the biosynthesis of monoterpenes are provided by plastidial methyl-erythritol-phosphate (MEP) pathways. Objective: In order to increase our understanding of terpene metabolism in M. piperita, the effect of salicylic acid (SA) and abscisic acid (ABA) in the modulation of expression pattern of genes involved in essential oil biosynthesis and secretion wa...
متن کاملRoles of a 20 kDa protein associated with a carbocycle-forming enzyme involved in aminoglycoside biosynthesis in primary and secondary metabolism.
2-Deoxy-scyllo-inosose (DOI) synthase participates in the biosynthesis of 2-deoxystreptamine (DOS)-containing aminoglycoside antibiotics. The enzyme is expected to be of industrial use, because it converts a sustainable resource (glucose 6-phosphate) into carbocycle (DOI), which easily aromatizes to yield catechol. In the present study, we clarified the physiological role of a non-catalytic 20 ...

The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body that is responsible for more than 500 vital functions, including biosynthesis of major plasma proteins, immunity against infectious pathogens, balancing energy metabolism and xenobiotics biotransformation (1). One of the main functions of the liver is an important role in drug metabolism (2). Since developing new drug compounds into mark...
متن کاملThe Adrenal Cortex in Childhood Part 2: Pathological Aspects*
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is the most important cause of the adrenogenital syndrome in infancy and childhood. It is a classic example of an 'inborn error of metabolism' and represents the clinical expression of a hereditary defect in the biosynthesis of cortisol. Studies on patients with this disorder have enriched our knowledge on the biosynthesis and metabolism of adrenocortical st...
